About the Meeting

Mount Tabor will once again take part in a nationwide tradition this summer, joining camp meeting communities from across the country for the second annual National Historic Camp Meeting Celebration. The service will be held simultaneously at historic camp meeting sites nationwide, including Hoover Auditorium in Lakeside, Ohio, and the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, with a livestream connecting communities coast to coast.

This year’s guest preacher is Rev. Dr. Kenda Creasy Dean, Professor of Youth, Church and Culture at Princeton Theological Seminary and author of Almost Christian: What the Faith of Our Teenagers Is Telling the American Church. Her message will center on the theme “Remember! Celebrate! Share!” — a fitting tribute to the shared history of America’s camp meeting movement.

Music will be provided by choirs and musicians representing several of the nation’s historic camps: Michael Shirtz and the Chautauqua Choir of Lakeside, Ohio; the Henderson Family Singers of Craigville, Massachusetts; the Singing Stars of Gulfside, Mississippi; and the Ocean Grove Auditorium Choir of Ocean Grove, New Jersey.

Worship will be led by Rev. Dr. Charles Yoost, Convener of the Historic Camp Meeting Network.

Join us in person at the Mount Tabor church, or watch the livestream from Lakeside, Ohio. For the full list of participating locations and livestream access, visit the Lakeside Chautauqua event page.
