Preserving Photography and Photographic Materials, with award-winning photographer Billy Neumann

Billy’s workshop will include a short overview of what, how and why we preserve artifacts and documents, but will be directed mostly towards photographic materials. He will include ideas on the physical handling of materials, conventional conservation methods and how best to accomplish a digital preservation outcome. A visual presentation along with equipment demonstrations will be included.

Topics will also include:
Technical guideposts and specs for digital recording aka “what settings do I use?”
When and how to use a scanner and when not to take a photograph.
Why is contextual information important and how to attach and imbed it to your preserved materials.
Storage, transformation and use of preserved materials.
