Program: Greystone Rising

May 11, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

7pm refreshments, 7:30 program, at the Bethel in Trinity Park, Mount Tabor. Free program, donations accepted.

Jody Johnson, drone camera pilot, will present her award-winning video. This extraordinary film shows, in reverse, the demolition of the Kirkbride building and other structures at the historic psychiatric hospital in Morris County, NJ. Johnson will speak about her interactions with the demolition crew and others connected with the widely-publicized series of events leading to and during the demolition.

Joining Johnson will be Lisa Marie Blohm of Greystone Park Memorial, co-editor of “Greystone Rising”, and Rusty Tagliareni, author of “Images of America – Greystone”.

Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital was built in 1876 and was the largest building in the US at the time. This beautiful, historic masterpiece was demolished from May to November, 2015. The tragedy of losing one of Morris County’s largest and most historically significant buildings inspired Johnson’s concept for “Greystone Rising,” which captures the demolition in reverse, from end to beginning. “My whole vision from the beginning was to have it backwards,” Johnson said. “A lot of people didn’t want to see it taken down, so I thought for one last tribute to Greystone, to have it built back up.”
Park near the Mt. Tabor post office at 26 Simpson Ave. and walk up the pedestrian path to the Bethel. For information 973-625-8548.
