Victorian Dress: The Secret Victorian Lady

Lydia Chiappini, dressed in complete Victorian fashion, will discuss women’s dress in the nineteenth century by removing various layers of clothing to chemise, corset and pantaloons and explaining the title, function and history of each garment.

Lydia Chiappini is a professor of art at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, PA and  for the College of Online and Continuing Education at Southern New Hampshire University. She has been teaching art history and art studio at the college level since 1998 and has an intense interest in fiber arts and the history of costume. Lydia received a B.A. in Fine Arts and Biology, a M.A. in Fine Arts Studio and a Post B.A. Art Certification for Art K-12 from Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, NJ. She is an artist in the areas of painting, fiber arts and sculpture, creating wearable art forms, landscapes, figures and abstractions. Lydia lives on a farm in NJ near the Delaware Water Gap where she raise llamas and alpacas for their fiber. She is also the author of five books about her farm.
